Some of our boxes  (like the one in the pic) will be for sale at  Eco-Wise (110 West Elizabeth, Austin TX), right off South Congress. Go by and see them- this is a great store for holiday shopping. We're thrilled to have them there. We have a new page on the website showing the boxes that will be for sale at Eco-Wise.

And many thanks to everyone who came to visit us in our studio on the EAST tour- and MANY MANY thanks to those who bought boxes. The way to ensure that things like EAST keep happening is to support the artists by buying art.  Consider buying holiday gifts from one of the artists you saw on the tour- many of them also show at local stores as well as through their galleries and websites.

As we settle down from a few weeks of art fairs and the studio tour, we finally have time to get some work done. This is one of my new favorites- a maple box with two glass panels etched in a winter tree design. I woodburned all around the box and top to continue the branches, and the lid lift is a sterling silver twig. It's really beautiful, and I'm pleased to report that I made no errors that I had to sand down in 3 hours of woodburning. It's for sale now at the bottom of our "wood and glass boxes" page.

FYI- We got the silver twig through the Silver Twig Shop at etsy.com. Renee at Silver Twig makes amazing things at reasonable prices. Check her out!

We're delighted that a picture of one of our boxes was chosen to accompany the article on the East Austin Studio Tour in this week's Austin Chronicle! This box is for sale, and if you buy it at the EAST gallery (2000 E 6th St by the Post Office) 25% of the proceeds go to support EAST (for instance, paying for those gorgeous color art catalogs that were free to the public).

Last weekend's tour was just great- thanks to all the people who came to our studio, asked questions, and showed so much interest in our process. It's so validating to get so much feedback and conversation about our art, and to meet so many interesting people with so much passion for art.

The tour continues this weekend, so get on your bike to avoid the F1 traffic and come by! And keep all the comments, questions, and kind words flowing!

EAST is upon us! We have a few new boxes to show- and most of the boxes for sale on these pages will be present at our studio. We also make custom boxes, so if you need a memorial urn/box made, come see us at EAST to discuss it. The box in the photo is handcarved spalted maple on a curly maple, rosewood, and sapele base. It has agate, marble, labradorite, and copper accents, and the lid lift is a carved slate tree. Yes, I carved the tree with my trusty sandblaster. The back is as detailed as the front- see another pic of the back on the Handcarved Boxes page.

The last one I made that was sort of like this one (but only sort of) sold at the Salado Art Fair before I could get it on the website. I think of boxes like this one as my "Seussian" series.

And here's our newest box. We are still trying to decide on a lid lift for it. Two sides are etched glass with this winter trees design. The other two sides, top, and base are maple woodburned to continue the tree design all around. It's pretty wonderful. Maybe a bone lid lift. Or copper. You can see us worry about it during the tour.

And I've started work on the etched glass pieces for a jellyfish box so I have something to work on this weekend.

See you on the tour!
