Tom and I have had this big beautiful piece of spalted maple root burl for about a year, and have argued about what to do with it. I won the argument, and we made this weird thing. The root burl is the back of the box, and the rest is made of spalted pecan. The lid is handcarved and there is inlaid turquoise inside the box. I love it- especially the way the top looks folded, and the way the top fits the base is great. It's been a while since we've done something without glass in it, and it's nice to get away from the fragile and rigid nature of glass for a while. It will be for sale under "constructed boxes" this week!
