When I was a child, I spent several summers on High Island, one of the Thimble Islands off the Connecticut coast in Long Island Sound. We kids hunted jellyfish with pointy sticks- they were beautiful, pink with lavender tentacles and a pink-red star on top. We'd pull them out of the water and they'd dry on the rocks, and a few days later there would be a pink star stained into the rocks.
Yes, we were mean kids, right out of Lord of the Flies. In our defense, if one of those jellyfish tentacles touched you, you'd get sick almost immediately, and we considered ourselves the archnemeses of the jellyfish world.
